A Bespoke Career with Constellation Brands

Vice President of Global Accounting

He joined Constellation Brands in 2004 as a Director and later advanced to Vice President of Global Accounting. In this position, he oversaw the global consolidated accounting close process for the $3.6 billion publicly traded company, reducing the time to close by eight days while improving reporting quality and establishing stronger internal controls.

He developed a global cash flow reporting process, consolidated multi-currency statements, and cut preparation time by 10 days. His work improved efficiency, accuracy, and compliance across financial operations. He conducted detailed accounting research on complex transactions such as acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and derivative instruments, reducing reliance on external consultants.

He led fair value purchase price allocations for multiple acquisitions over $1 billion, implemented global accounting policies and standardized procedures, and centralized global intercompany transaction processing, which eliminated out-of-balance errors and improved timing. His responsibilities included overseeing global general ledger governance, ensuring compliance with US GAAP for both domestic and international divisions, and contributing to the design and rollout of a new global ERP system.

Vice President of FP&A – Wine & Spirits / Vice President of Commercial Finance – Wine & Spirits

In 2012, he became Vice President of FP&A – Wine & Spirits, directing strategic and annual planning for the U.S. Wines & Spirits business, which generated $2.7 billion in profit.

Two years later, he transitioned to Vice President of Commercial Finance – Wine & Spirits, where he was responsible for strategic financial planning and operational excellence. He created market-level annual financial and operating plans aimed at driving revenue growth, market share gains, optimized brand mix, and margin improvements.

By centralizing approximately $150 million of non-price investments and implementing a zero-based budgeting process, he improved visibility, efficiency, and alignment with key commercial priorities. He directed monthly closings, forecasts, and reporting, offering actionable insights to the sales leadership team. He also introduced financial metrics that linked sales performance to company results and delivered training to the sales organization.

Implementing a cloud-based forecasting solution allowed him to integrate regional sales data, S&OP data, and historical trends into dynamic monthly forecasts, improving forecast accuracy. He restructured the sales finance organization into a shared services model, enabling support for growth and acquisitions without adding headcount. His role also included contributions to strategic planning, acquisition evaluation, and board-level reporting.

Later, as Chief Audit Executive and Senior Vice President & Controller, he returned to the Wine & Spirits Division as Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. In this role, he worked with a new leadership team to redefine the division’s strategy after a $1 billion divestiture of lower-end brands, focusing on high-growth areas such as direct-to-consumer channels and targeted international markets. He eliminated nearly $100 million in stranded fixed costs across SG&A, operations, sales, and marketing. He also established a pricing execution team and revenue council, achieving a 500% increase in price realization within two years.

Senior Vice President & CFO, Beer Division

From 2021 until late 2023, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Beer Division, an $8 billion revenue business with close to $3 billion in profit and significant production operations in Mexico alongside commercial operations in the U.S.

He led initiatives to optimize capital investment and operational efficiency, reducing planned capacity investments by $1.5 billion, or 30%, over three years through better alignment of commercial demand, supply planning, and engineering. He improved governance over capital planning, reduced capital expenditures, and strengthened margins by 30 to 40 basis points.

He implemented a multi-year cost efficiency strategy across a $3 billion operations base, mitigating inflation impacts and improving long-term margins. He also introduced the division’s first expatriate program to enhance cross-border collaboration, which increased engagement scores by eight points, reduced turnover, and lowered recruitment costs.

Working with the strategy team, he redefined the global integrated business planning process to improve alignment, investment prioritization, and focus on strategic initiatives. He actively participated in investor relations, presenting the beer division’s strategy at investor events, and helped shape communications for quarterly earnings calls.

Before joining Constellation Brands, he worked for seven years in public accounting with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Andersen.
